PA Biking Day 2 - Seven Covered Bridges
Our ride for day 2 was named Seven Covered Bridges. This was our first covered bridge and the only one that we did not ride across.
We drove about 15 miles from the hotel to get to the start of today’s ride. Like yesterday, our day began with beautiful blue skies, temperatures in the mid 50s, and abundant corn fields. I like this backlit photo of Ruth with the sun, deep blue sky, yellow and green corn tips, and just enough light on Ruth.
Here we are approaching covered bridge number 2. The astute reader might guess that this will not be the last covered bridge photo in today’s post.
In addition to the covered bridges, the farmland vistas were lovely.
I took this photo as I cycled through covered bridge number 3.
I liked how this play set and back yard was completely surrounded by farmland.
Today’s ride, at “just” 58 miles, was actually a nice recovery day for our legs. There were fewer hills than yesterday, and we generally just rode at a more relaxed pace. Stopping to take photos at each of the bridges provided 7 additional short rests as well.
Here is a bit of lawn sculpture.

Here are all 6 of my fellow riders climbing a hill. While occasionally I have good photos of my friends cycling towards me, overwhelmingly I have them riding away. Since I take almost all of my photos while riding, to get a photo of them riding towards me, I either need to be looking backwards while riding, or more commonly, I just point the camera backwards and see what I manage to capture. Either way, it is simply much harder to get a well framed and interesting photo of riders behind me.
We knew the ride was nearing the end when we rode through bridge 6.
Finally, we made it through bridge seven and completed our ride. This then led to the real highlight of the day for which I have no photographs. After the ride, we went to Fox Meadow Creamery for some amazing ice cream. As my daughter Becca might say, 10 out of 10.
