VA Gravel Biking - Day 1
Doug, Jesse, Ruth and I drove down to Harrisonburg VA yesterday for a week of gravel cycling with Trek Travel. Two of our Trek Travel guides for the week, Izak and George, were guides on the Cross Country trip last year, so it was great for Ruth, Jesse and me to reconnect with them.
The beginning of the first day starts with a talk about safety, information about the bikes, and instructions on using the Garmin head units they provide for navigation. For many, if not most of us, this is generally review, but riders do have different experience levels with riding in general, riding on gravel, electronic shifting, hydronic disc brakes, and navigating with Garmins, so the talk can help fill in bits and pieces.
While it was in the upper 70s when we arrived yesterday evening, a cold front has come through, so temperatures were in the upper 50s today. With the clouds and a fairly strong wind, it felt substantially cooler than I had expected give the temperature.
Our ride today was a short 19 mile trip from our starting point in the farm lands west of Harrisonburg back to the hotel in the city.
While the ride was short, the scenery was very nice.
As always, it is simply great to be on the bike with friends!
