Where Am I Now? Tracking Ken
As I travel across the United States, I will be carrying a Garmin inReach Mini satellite tracker. This device will record my location, via satellite, every 10 minutes while I am biking (assuming that I remember to turn it on which I am sure I will forget occasionally). With the following link, you can see where I am as I ride as well as the route I have taken across the country: https://share.garmin.com/kensbiking.
The inReach is one of several technology devices I use when I am biking away from home. Most of the time, my wife and kids can see my location via my cell phone. However, there will undoubtedly be periods where I am biking and there is no cell phone coverage. The satellite tracking device becomes a backup device in those cases. In addition to tracking my location, it can send and receive messages, and it has an SOS emergency button. While I hope that I will never need to use those emergency features, it is comforting both to me and my family to know they are available.
