Day 2: Santa Barbara to Valencia CA

Today we began our trip in earnest, bicycling 80 miles starting from Santa Barbara, heading down the coast to Ventura before turning east ending in Valencia.

The day started with a lovely sunrise.

After breakfast, our bags were loaded into the Trek vans, one of which is shown here.

We headed the couple of blocks to the beach to get photos of us with our bikes and the Pacific Ocean.

Three miles into our ride, I got a flat from a piece of glass. All told, I know of at least 10 flats today from glass, thorns, etc. Hopefully, things will get better as we go on.

The scenery was lovely as we headed inland into the dry mountains. Here some flowers were being grown near the side of the road.

A nice tailwind and a pace line meant that we were able to make good time. Away from the shore, the temperatures rose into upper 80s and low 90s. It didn't feel to hot since it was dry, but it was important to keep hydrating.

One final scenic photo before heading to get some dinner.
