Day 21: Guymon to Woodward
Today was the second longest ride of our trip, 140 miles from Guymon OK to Woodward OK. The winds were blowing over 20 mph today, but fortunately, they were mostly from the SW. We were heading SE then E which meant we had a lot of cross winds but also had periods where the wind was helping us.
Given the long day, we got started early. To shield ourselves from the winds as much as possible, many of us rode in a larger group today.
Today, we saw some more of Oklahoma's diversity: hay fields.
Oh yes, we also saw wind turbines.
During the morning, we dipped into Texas, making this our seventh state.
We stopped for lunch in Booker Texas. One of the local newspaper reporters was around and took some photographs of some of us. Apparently, we will be on the front page of their next issue. Obviously, wild and crazy things are happening in Booker.
Shockingly, the scenery in Texas was not so different from Oklahoma.
Soon enough, we rode back into Oklahoma.
As we past these cows, they all looked at us seemingly wondering what on earth we were doing. As we had already crossed the century mark but still had many miles still to bike, I was beginning to wonder exactly the same thing.
Rolling into the outskirts of Woodward, I passed over this train that seemed to go on as far as I could see. Trains have been a constant presence on this cross country trip.
I am a bit punchy now, so I should head to bed. Tomorrow is another 114 miles. Yee haw!
