Day 36: Cookeville to Knoxville
Today was a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde ride. The morning was back roads with rolling hills and gorgeous fall foliage. The afternoon had lots of stretches on very busy roads with either limited or no shoulders, especially coming into Knoxville. As a result, today's photos are mostly from the morning portion of the ride.
Today, the foliage was significantly more colorful than it has been. This may be because we are at slightly higher altitudes and now in a region which has already seen its first frosts.
I find it interesting to see how barns age. This one has a distinct sag to the roof line.
I liked this shot since it both captured the foliage nearby but also one can just see the hills in the background.
This gives another view of the hills that we were riding over today.
This picture was one of the few I took after lunch. We were riding along a hill. Down a long driveway looked to be a small garage which would have been invisible without this creative sculpture.
All told, today's ride was 118 miles and about 7,600' of climbing. Tomorrow we ride to Asheville NC which will be just a bit farther and even more climbing than today. Five more rides with just over 500 miles still to go.
