Mallorca Ride 2

Today’s  59 mile ride was south through the relatively flat center of the island to the table top mesa pictured above. The Puig de Randa is located essentially at the center of Mallorca and is visible from much of the island.

I woke up this morning to the sight of a beautiful sunrise out of my room window shown here. The night sky was still quite blue, but the horizon was fire orange. I love the contrast of this shot with the sharp plant silhouettes.

After breakfast, the group met up at 9am the hear about today’s ride from our guides Lisa and Wiebe.

Here is Wiebe leading out our cycling train.

On route to the mesa, we went through a number of scenic towns such as this one.

The scenery today was much more pastoral than yesterday’s ride through the mountains.

Many of the roads we ride on are quite narrow with very little traffic.

At the start of the climb, Wiebe stopped to shed his jacket which is the only reason he is behind me. 😀

Here is a panoramic view looking north from the top of the mesa. Most of our remaining rides will be in those mountains.

I liked this old windmill in one of the towns we passed through on our way back to the hotel.

Here is an out building on one of the farms that we passed.

One final picture for today’s blog. Tomorrow, we are biking only 2 miles further, 61 miles vs 59 miles, but there will be twice as much climbing with 7000’ of elevation gain versus the 3500’ of today’s ride. Since climbing is not my strong point as a rider, tomorrow will be much harder than today.
