XC Day 8 - Meadville PA to Bradford PA
Today we rode 101 miles and climbed about 6300’, so it was a long day and I am now quite tired. However, it was also a beautiful day of cycling. With the exception of about 15 miles in the second half which were on a major road, the rest of the biking was on balance the best scenery and riding I have had on the trip so far.
Since it is already late, and I have another 100 mile day tomorrow, today’s post will have lots of photos but comparatively less prose.
Today actually started a bit inauspiciously as it was chilly with very light rain.
However, the mist / rain let up quickly, and the scenery did not disappoint.
I was really struck by this barn. I love how the gray color of the barn and the sky play with each other.
Today had lots of hills. While this makes the riding more physically challenging, it also keeps it interesting.
This church was at the first rest area.
While bicycling along, I say this turkey scrambling away from the road towards a house where I think it might live.
A nice little river we passed over.
I decided to stop and take a selphie along this nice stretch of road.
We had a couple of road closures today. Sometimes we need to detour, but sometimes we can get through on our bicycles. We did need to dismount here since there was deep gravel.
Just another fun farm land photo.
And another fun barn.
This is a picture of the Allegheny River which we rode along for a number of miles.
Here we are climbing up the hills along the Allegheny River.
Another picture of the Allegheny River.
And just to finish things off, here is a photo of a wooded green along the road that caught my eye. I liked how the dappled light looked on the ground cover.
Heading to bed now to try and rest as best as I can for tomorrow’s ride.
