Day 3: Into the Mojave Desert

Today we left Valencia and headed east into the western portion of the Mojave Dessert as seen above.

We started riding at 7am, very shortly after sunrise. The temperature was 62 degrees, which was lovely for riding since our first 25 miles were a gradual climb up 2500 feet.

This was the view at the top looking back towards the Los Angeles National Forest.

As we headed east, the landscape became more barren but still quite beautiful.

At this point, the winds were coming out of the northeast which meant that we were often battling headwinds today.

Shortly before lunch, we passed this gas station and diner. It looks right out of an old movie set.

Today was the first century of the trip, and there were times when this photo captured the sense of the everlasting road in front of us.

Eventually, our riding group arrived at our destination. Tomorrow, we get to do it all over again with another 100 mile ride deeper into the Mojave Desert.
